Lost amid the neverending midterms – they are still counting votes in Florida and California if you can believe it – Broward County has devolved into a charade of bad intentions and incompetence.
So most people are rightfully watching with jaws on the floor at the rank incompetence and possible corruption, yet the real news is what is happening behind the scenes.
The GOP keeps the Senate no matter what happens in Florida and that has real-life consequences for a few people who have somehow avoided the consequences for their actions all these years.
And I am talking about you James Comey and Hillary Clinton. For too long they have stuck the proverbial finger in the eye of norms and laws and Lindsey plans to do something about it.
Sen. Lindsey Graham said Tuesday that he will investigate how the FBI handled the investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 elections and Hillary Clinton’s email controversy if he becomes chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Totally,” the South Carolina Republican told CNN when asked if he would look into the FBI’s handling of those probes. “The oversight function will be very much front and center.”
Graham has been a longtime critic of the FBI’s handling of those investigations — and has called for a second special counsel to investigate what happened.
And if Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley steps aside from running the Senate Judiciary Committee to chair the Senate Finance Committee, as is widely expected, Graham would be poised to run the powerful panel that oversees the FBI.
Graham’s comments are the latest sign that the Senate GOP will be a counterbalance of sorts to House Democrats, who plan to end the House Republican probe into the FBI and launch a flurry of new investigations in their new majority next year.
From The New York Times:
He said as well that he wants to become chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee after the election, if the current chairman, Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, grabs the gavel of the Finance Committee.
Should that happen, he said, he would initiate an oversight investigation into whether the Department of Justice and the F.B.I. were “in the tank” for Mr. Trump’s 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton, joining similar efforts in the House.
