The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Office of Statewide Prosecution say they have an opened a criminal investigation into the allegations.
Ouch… this is huge and they say there is more than enough documentation to back up their claims.
From The Naples Daily: Florida officials confirmed Monday that they have launched a criminal investigation into the use of altered election forms by Florida Democrats to fix absentee ballots after the state deadline, expanding an investigation into potential election fraud that was first referred to federal prosecutors.
One state Democratic party staffer who was instructed to share the altered form with voters said she has “plenty of documentation to prove” several members in party leadership were made aware that the form, which was modified to include the wrong state deadline, was being circulated.
“Once I realized that the form was altered I brought it to the attention of several members in leadership. I have plenty of documentation to prove this,” Eli Logan, a Brevard Democrat, wrote in a private Facebook group message obtained by USA TODAY NETWORK – Florida.
Altered forms, which mirror those sent by Florida Democrats in the internal email in question, surfaced in Broward, Santa Rosa, Citrus and Okaloosa counties and were reported to federal prosecutors to review for possible election fraud as Florida counties completed a recount in three top races.
The email sent by a party official on Nov. 7 shows an apparent statewide effort by Florida Democrats to try to fix as many absentee ballots as possible after the state deadline.
The criminal investigation into the use of altered forms is underway in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the attorney general’s office.
“We now have an active criminal investigation into this matter. I cannot provide any additional information at this time,” said Gretl Plessinger, a spokeswoman with the state’s law enforcement agency.
Democratic strategist Steve Schale says it was likely just a mix up.
“Some 23-year-old staffer probably got two dates mixed up,” said Schale. “They put the date down for the provisional ballot cure, not the absentee ballot cure, and actually by doing it, all they did was make it harder for their own voters to vote.”
Republicans point to the fact Democrats successfully sued to extend the deadline after the fact.
“It looks like they were just planning on a judge siding with them because of the bias towards trying to allow as many votes as possible to count that were legally cast,” said Eric Eggers, author of the book Fraud. “It’s the first evidence we have of systemic efforts to undercut or subvert election law as it was on the book.”
Supervisors of elections who brought the changed forms to the state’s attention say even if it was just a mix up, official elections forms should never have been altered.
“I think the question it raises is what other efforts were underway to subvert election law that we don’t know about yet,” said Eggers.
The Florida Democratic Party says it’s hired its own independent investigator to look into the case. It says it plans to release any findings once the investigation is complete.
