Eric Holder Unveils Radical Plan To Change Supreme Court

Eric Holder just unveiled a radical plan to change the Supreme Court and the Dems better be very careful lest they do lasting damage to that august institution.

If this plan moves forward the next time Democrats have the power to do so, it could do undermine the legitimacy of the court.

The Democrats often complain that Trump is not bound by traditional norms (that were never enshrined into law) and in doing so is damaging the presidency.

Packing the court as Holder wants would be worse because (the constitution does not say how many Supreme Court judges we should have) it would start an arms race every time we have a transition of power.

This all stems from Gorsuch and Mitch denying Merrick Garland a seat, but remember, if Mitch had called a vote, Garland may not have been confirmed anyway as the Dems did not have 51 votes in the Senate.

This is just more sour grapes from the left. From The Daily Caller:

Former Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday said Democrats should consider packing the Supreme Court when they regain political power.

Holder said he would “seriously consider” adding two seats to the court if he were president, as revenge for the two seats on the court that President Donald Trump has filled since taking office. Holder wants other Democrats to follow suit.

“In response to a question, Attorney General Holder said that given the unfairness, unprecedented obstruction, and disregard of historical precedent by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans, when Democrats retake the majority they should consider expanding the Supreme Court to restore adherence to previously accepted norms for judicial nominations,” a Holder spokesman said in a statement.

From The Free Beacon:

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is running for president, has also entertained the idea of court-packing, calling it “no more a departure from norms than what the Republicans did to get the judiciary to the place it is today.”

Progressive activists recently started a group named “Pack the Courts” in an effort to pressure 2020 Democratic candidates to expand the Supreme Court. The group raised more than $500,000 by the end of February and is partnering with the progressive group Demand Justice.

“At Demand Justice, we strongly believe that reforming the court — especially by expanding it — is the cornerstone for re-building American democracy,” Brian Fallon, director of Demand Justice and a former Hillary Clinton press secretary, told Politico.

Fallon referred to the courts as “stolen” and called the Supreme Court a “partisan operation.”
