CNN and Jim Acosta just did the unthinkable and actually sued President Trump and his administration.
If you missed it Jim Acosta who has a history of showboating and asking rude questions to try to get a rise out of Trump went too far and got banned.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders revoked his White House press pass and Acosta has actually been trolling the decision on Twitter.
Rumors were flying that CNN would take the extraordinary steps to sue Trump so Jim Acosta can have his job back. And now they are confirmed.
“CNN a lawsuit against the Trump administration in D.C. District Court,” the network said in a statement. “It demands the return of the White House credentials of CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta. The wrongful revocation of these credentials violates CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press, and their Fifth Amendment rights to due process.”
CNN continued: “We have asked this court for an immediate restraining order requiring the pass to be returned to Jim, and will seek permanent relief as part of this process. While the suit is specific to CNN and Acosta, this could have happened to anyone. If left unchallenged, the actions of the White House would create a dangerous chilling effect for any journalist who covers elected officials.”
The White House Correspondents’ Association in on board with CNN’s lawsuit. “Revoking access to the White House complex amounted to disproportionate reaction to the events of last Wednesday,” the group said.
“We continue to urge the administration to reverse course and full reinstate CNN’s correspondent. The president of the United States should not be in the business of arbitrarily picking the men and women who cover him.”
NBC chimed in: CNN says it is suing President Trump and top Trump aides, alleging they have violated CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press and Fifth Amendment rights to due process; requests court grant immediate return of Acosta’s press pass.
